Screening Process & Criteria for Potential start-up clients for the Centre

The facilities and services of the Enterprise Acceleration Centre are available to entrepreneurs who are looking to establish a company in Ireland which meets the criteria stipulated by Enterprise Ireland for High Potential Start-Up (HPSU) companies. Enterprise Ireland define a High Potential Start Up as a company which is

  • Based on technological innovation;
  • Likely to achieve significant growth in 3 years (sales of €1 million per annum and employment of 10 or more)
  • Export oriented
  • Ideally, led by an experienced team, with a mixture of technical and commercial competencies

Each new applicant must firstly submit a standard application form which demonstrates a high level of innovation in product, process development or service for the company. The applicant must then submit a business plan for formal review by the Client Selection Committee that demonstrates commercial viability. Applicants will also be given an opportunity to outline how potential linkages with the Institute will assist in the development of the business. These will generally include commitments to explore R&D, student placement and/or graduate employment in conjunction with the External Services Office.

Approval to occupy the EAC will be made on the basis:

  • A newly formed company (less than 3 years old) that is Irish owned with commitment to locate headquarters in the EAC during start-up.
  • IP ownership clear and unambiguous
  • Ability to generate significant export sales within 3 years
  • Ability to generate quality, sustainable employment
  • How residence of the EAC can benefit the company
  • Plans to collaborate with LIT in terms of collaborative R&D and/or student placement/graduate employment or other initiatives.

The selection process will be proofed against gender and equality considerations. The Client Selection Committee will also take consideration of the following:

  1. The business or enterprise must not be the same, substantially the same or in direct competition with an existing tenant.
  2. The company promoters understand the role of the EAC in providing incubation facilities
  3. The company complies with centre standards, e.g. environmental and health & safety

A quick decision on your application (circa 5 working days) is promised by EAC Manager, Donncha Hughes. An action plan can then be agreed to facilitate a smooth moving in schedule incluidng unit fit-out as appropriate.
